Croft Street Fisheries donates to local charities

12 January 2017

charity-logosChristmas is a time for giving and on Christmas Eve, Croft Street Fisheries decided to donate £1 from the sale of every portion of fish and chips to two local charities.

The charities chosen by owner Rafael were West Leeds Food Bank and St Georges Crypt in Leeds.

Rafael said, “I wanted to help charities that would greatly benefit from our donation at this time of year, and I felt both these charities do great work for the local people in our community. We used Facebook to inform customers on the day and we had a great turnout, which was fantastic.”

In total £202 was raised on the day and this was divided equally between the two charities.

Rafael went to visit the West Leeds Food Bank on 4th January. He presented the cheque to David Peden, team leader for this particular session, held every Wednesday at the Methodist church from 1pm - 3pm. On average around 25 families are helped each week during this session, but David explained that on the Wednesday before Christmas a total of 39 families visited the food bank.

Rafael added, “I hope that our donation will make a small difference and that it has raised a bit of awareness among our customers as to the great work these charities do on a local level."
